Official Rulebook

The full HanPanDo rulebook — print or read in browser.

§1Components

1 board, 5 hero pawns, 1 die, 100 coin tokens, 13 Hanok cards, 15 Sijang cards, 13 Hansik cards, 4 Mythical creature cards, 30 Hagwon question cards, and this rulebook.

§2Objective

Reach Mount Paektu first to trigger end-of-game scoring. The player with the highest total — solo points plus combo bonuses plus battle prizes — becomes the Ruler of the Peninsula.

§3Turn Structure

  1. Roll the die.
  2. Move forward that many spaces.
  3. Resolve the space.
  4. Optionally: declare combos, trade with another player, activate hero ability.
  5. Pass to the player on your left.

§4Cards & Decks

The four decks are Hanok (homes & village life), Sijang (market & crafts), Hansik (food), and Mythical (creatures). Hanok and Hansik are drawn; Sijang is purchased with coins; Mythical is fought.

Card anatomy: coin cost (top-right), solo points (top-left star), combo points (bottom badge), name and Korean script (bottom).

§5Combinations

A combo is two or three cards that match a printed recipe (see the combos card included in the box, or the Card Library). Declare a combo on your turn to lock in its bonus.

Each card may participate in only one combo per game. The "Royal Banquet" is the highest-scoring combo at 20 points.

§6Mythical Battles

On a Mountain space, draw a Mythical Creature. Roll the die; if your roll plus any food-card bonuses exceeds the creature's power, you win and add its power as points. Otherwise discard a coin.

§7Hagwon Questions

Draw a question card and read it to the player on your left. They have 30 seconds. Correct: gain Nyang equal to the difficulty. Wrong: pay 1 coin to the bank.

§8End of Game

The game ends when the first pawn lands on Mount Paektu. Complete the turn round so each player has the same number of turns. Tally: solo points + combo bonuses + battle prizes.

§9Edge Cases

  • Tied scores: tied players share the title.
  • Empty Sijang: shuffle the discard back into the market.
  • Two heroes triggering simultaneously: resolve in player order from the active player.
  • House rules are encouraged — share them in our blog.
