How to Play
From your first roll to crowning the Ruler of the Peninsula.
Overview
HanPanDo is a strategic card-collecting board game for 2–5 players. You'll travel the Korean peninsula from Jeju to Mount Paektu, collect cards from three cultural decks, build powerful combos, and race rivals to become Ruler of the Peninsula.
A game lasts 60–90 minutes. Ages 12 and up. Reading required — every card has lore on the back.
Setup
- Place the board between players. Sort the four decks: Hanok, Sijang, Hansik, Mythical.
- Each player picks a hero card and reads its ability aloud.
- Deal 10 coins to each player. Place pawns on the start space (Jeju Island).
- Shuffle the Hagwon question deck and place it beside the board.
- Youngest player goes first; play rotates clockwise.
Gameplay
On your turn:
- Roll the die and move forward.
- Resolve the space you land on (see Board Spaces below).
- Trade or combo cards from your hand. Optional.
- Pass to the next player.
Use your hero ability whenever its trigger fires. Heroes are designed to interrupt — don't be shy.
Board Spaces
- HanokDraw a Hanok card.
- SijangBuy any card from the market for its coin cost.
- HansikEat: gain 2 points or a Hansik card.
- HagwonAnswer a Korea question. Right → coins; wrong → lose 1.
- MountainRoll for a Mythical creature battle.
- FestivalAll players gain a Sijang card.
Scoring
Every card has solo points printed top-left. Combos (two or three matching cards) award extra combo bonuses — sometimes doubling a card's value.
At any time during the game you may declare a combo and lock in its bonus. Defeating a Mythical Creature awards its power value in points.
The first player to reach Mount Paektu and meet Dangun ends the game. Total scores decide the Ruler.
Heroes
Each of the ten heroes brings a different rhythm to the table. King Sejong rewards scholars; Yi Sun-sin punishes attackers; the Shaman bends fate around mythical battles.
